This is a long-distance stop station operated by Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa. The building is protected under the Heritage Legislation. The project entailed the general maintenance and refurbishment of the entire station including restoration of the interior spaces. Historically, the building is known as being the station where Mahatma Gandhi the political activist was forcefully thrown off a train for riding first class in 1893.
